July 11, 2022 – Creating better access to health care for more patients in the region is a major focus of the Arnprior and District Family Health Team’s (ADFHT) new 2022-2027 Strategic Plan that was approved by its Board of Directors in June 2022.
“The Arnprior and District Family Health Team is a gem in our community,” said Jay Johnston, Chair, Board of Directors, ADFHT. “I am pleased that our new Strategic Plan provides us with the roadmap to build on successes and increase the reach of the multidisciplinary care team to better meet our growing community’s health needs.”
The ADFHT worked with an external partner to facilitate the strategic planning process including a series of formal consultations sessions with staff, physicians, board directors, external stakeholders, and community partners.
The 2022-27 Strategic Plan includes a new vision, mission, values, and strategic directions.
New vision: Trusted partners in healthcare excellence.
New mission: To provide collaborative patient-centred care throughout all stages of life.
The new strategic directions include:
- Expansion and enhancement: Explore and prioritize the expansion of the Family Health Team to increase capacity and improve patient access to care.
- Community engagement and collaboration: Build new community partnerships and strengthen current relationships to meet the changing needs of our communities.
- Patient-centred access to care: Create a patient-centred experience through service and feedback enhancements for better access to care and optimal program delivery.
“Since we had accomplished our previous strategic goals, it was the right time to align on a new direction for our patients, communities and partners,” shared Karen Simpson, Executive Director, ADFHT. “In the past couple of years, our team has significantly strengthened our collaborations in the region through our leadership role in the Renfrew County Virtual Triage Assessment Centre, the Arnprior Community Vaccine Clinics, and our active membership in two Ontario Health Teams. The new Strategic Plan formalizes our commitment to continue building collaborations and finding innovative ways to provide our patients as well as unattached patients in our region with access to quality primary care.”
The Strategic Plan prioritizes the need to increase patient capacity through the expansion of the ADFHT via more clinical space, physician recruitment and innovative virtual care approaches.
“Our Family Health Team has outgrown our current physical space and an important part of supporting much-needed family physician and specialist recruitment is to expand our footprint,” said Dr. Christopher Zadow, who stepped into the role of ADFHT Physician Lead on July 1, 2022. “The high number of unattached patients in Renfrew County remains a concern that our new Strategic Plan helps to address by prioritizing effective growth so we can provide multidisciplinary, patient-centred care to more individuals and families.”
